While she may not have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express recently, actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has played a politician on television.
…which apparently qualifies her for public office in the eyes of some “top Democrats.”
In a feature article about political satire that focused on HBO’s hit political comedy “Veep,” starring Louis-Dreyfus as Vice President Selina Meyer, The Washington Post noted that the actress is an appealing real life candidate in the eyes of some.
Nikki Haley refuses to play ‘gotcha’ with Jake Tapper: ‘The only surprises are going to be …’
“Louis-Dreyfus said she has been approached by top Democrats and asked to run for office. (Not in a million years, she said she told them.),” reporter Ben Terris wrote.
He did not share who these “top Democrats” are, or what office they had in mind for Louis-Dreyfus.
But then, given the vast success of the first celebrity president, Barack Obama, a new era of American politics has evolved. And with his “Apprentice” background, Donald Trump’s electoral success only adds to this anomaly.
So much so that we now see people like Oprah Winfrey tossing around the possibility of running for office.
“I thought, ‘Oh, gee, I don’t have the experience,” Winfrey said recently in response to Trump’s election victory. “I don’t know enough. And now I’m thinking, ‘Oh. Oh.’”
Or, heaven forbid, Kanye West.
The rapper announced at the MTV Video Music Awards that he was planning to run for president in 2020. Of course, it may have just been the blunt West said he smoked before going on stage.
Syrian survivor on CNN destroys the network for years of silence; Trump’s a hero, where were YOU?
One thing is certain, West would not be the first president to have an affinity for weed.
