This may be a new low even for The New York Times.
A gruesome cover photo for a Tuesday headline by the publication left many wondering if there was “no end to their insanity.”
White House adviser Stephen Miller became Public Enemy No. 1 with a few late-night hosts on Monday https://t.co/cc4nseYxq0 pic.twitter.com/OAFIlKw1j0

The disturbing image of senior White House adviser Stephen Miller’s head on a spike crossed the line for many who seemed to not believe what they were seeing at first.
I’m taking a screenshot of this before someone at @nytimes with some sense and decency takes it down. Unreal. pic.twitter.com/Y8ObYETmgD

Just what are you trying to say here, @nytimes? https://t.co/DX8tRBR0TR

@Coondawg68 @nytimes that is crazy. Are there any limits to their insanity?
— Mike McIntyre (@mcintyremike) February 14, 2017
The image was apparently a clip from “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert in which the Trump adviser was mocked for appearing on multiple shows defending the president’s actions.
Even those who would not call themselves fans of Miller, however, saw the image used by the Times as inappropriate, to say the least.
@nytimes What the ever loving heck is wrong with you people? A spike? Really?

Apparently, ISIS has taken control of the New York Times. https://t.co/7KO8aBw682

@nytimes I think that guy is a clown, but that picture seems inappropriate for NYT to be tweeting out.

@Coondawg68 @_MoCowBell_ @nytimes wow! So messed up.
— Clint Kinsey (@ClKinsey) February 14, 2017
@Coondawg68 @X3Breeze @nytimes Goulish & beyond comprehension that would be posted.
— Jules (@jselinger50) February 14, 2017
Not surprisingly, the Times has not yet removed the image since it saw nothing wrong with it initially. Of course, if this was a conservative publication and that was former President Obama’s White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, well, that would be a different story.

Just so we’re clear: @nytimes thinks one of these is eliminationist, violent political rhetoric, the other a funny joke. pic.twitter.com/d5rDTvyCZ0

@ian_mckelvey I’m only 67 .. not old enough to remember when @NYTimes was a newspaper, but my father says it actually was long ago.

— Baader Meinof (@Baader_Meinhof) February 14, 2017
@nytimes what the hell is with that picture? Do you not want to be taken seriously?
— John Allen (@JohnTAllen) February 14, 2017
@nytimes What the F*** is happening to this country? This is what passes for journalism now.
— Sharby (@LSNortheast) February 14, 2017
@nytimes No… the media doesn’t have a bias at all… They just call their opposition Public Enemy No 1 and put their heads on spikes… pic.twitter.com/aIE4vjjcMT
