Trump thanks George H.W. Bush for his ‘wonderful letter’ as he and Pence send their well-wishes

Donald Trump and Mike Pence joined the nation in sending well-wishes to former President George H.W.Bush and his wife, Barbara, as they both remain in the hospital.

President-elect Trump offered his thanks to the former president for a personal letter he had sent last week and wished him a “speedy recovery.”

Just days after sending Trump the letter explaining why he would not be attending the inauguration due to doctor’s orders about his health, Bush ended up being hospitalized for shortness of breath.

“My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it likely will put me six feet under. Same for Barbara. So I guess we’re stuck in Texas,” Bush jokingly wrote in his letter apologizing to Trump for missing the inauguration.

The 92 year-old former president was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital for pneumonia, KTRK ABC13  reported.

His wife, Barbara, who was experiencing fatigue and coughing, was admitted Wednesday as a precaution.

Trump tweeted out his well-wishes for them both and thanked them for the “wonderful” note.

Vice President-elect Mike Pence encouraged Americans to “remember President Bush and his wonderful wife Barbara in their prayers.”

After an election year that hit close to home with a contentious battle between Trump and former GOP candidate Jeb Bush, the letter from the elder Bush was a reminder of what class and dignity should look like.
