President-elect Donald Trump kicked off a tour to thank the many Americans who helped him to the White House.
“Trump gains enormous strength from the American people, from being with them, from feeling their support, their strength, their enthusiasm,” Newt Gingrich said Thursday on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
The former speaker of the House commented on the “USA Thank You Tour 2016” that will take Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence through the Midwestern states that helped elect them. The tour kicked off at a campaign-style rally in Cincinnati on Thursday, and Gingrich believes it will be a recharge for Trump who thrives on the people’s energy and support.
“It’s a very important part of who he is,” Gingrich explained. “It’s part of what gives him this extraordinary level of energy that we have not seen, I think, since Theodore Roosevelt.”
Gingrich also noted that the tour is a message to the Washington establishment that Trump is leading an army of Americans who are demanding real change, not just symbolic gestures.
“He has a contract with the American voter,” Gingrich said. “He has a new deal for African-Americans. He has really committed himself to dramatic change.”
