A Boston father felt heartbroken that his three-year-old daughter couldn’t trick-or-treat on Halloween because they were traveling on a commercial cross-country flight on Monday night.
Not wanting to see her disappointed, the father found a way to make the evening special for his daughter Molly, and the act earned him “father of the year” in the eyes of the passengers and people on social media.
He passed out candy to all the other passengers, along with this note:
Happy Halloween!
My 3-year-old daughter, Molly, was bummed that she wouldn’t be able to go trick-or-treating this year due to this flight… so I decided to bring trick-or-treating to her. If you are willing, when my little donut comes down the aisle, please drop this in her basket. You’ll be making her Halloween! If you’re unwilling, no worries, just pass the treat back to me. Thanks so much!
Then he accompanied his “little donut” Molly down the aisle to go truck-or-treating.
Fellow passenger Stephanie Kahan, with “heart exploding,” tweeted:
OMG, my heart is exploding right now. Dad of the year just passed out candy to everyone on the flight so his 3 year old could trick or treat pic.twitter.com/vfsAcYNrhr

Her tweet became the good news shot that was heard around the world — much-needed during the final week of a rancorous presidential election. Kahan was re-tweeted 140 thousand times, and received 290 thousand “likes.”

She also received thousands of replies — most from media outlets and other organizations asking for permission to use the photos. She said “yes” to every request.
@stephaniekahan Hi! omg I LOVE this story. Is it okay if we use your images (embedded/linked back to your TW account) on @thepointsguy?

@stephaniekahan Too sweet! Can we get permission for KHOU in Houston?
— Danny Hermosillo (@dannyherm1) November 1, 2016
After being bombarded with media requests, Kahan sent out this blanket permission:
Any news outlets looking to use this photo/tweets have my permission. The father wishes to remain anonymous and I have no additional photos.

And one of those outlets filed this report:
