Susan Rice, President Barack Obama’s National Security Advisor, admitted on her 2008 federal appointment background investigation questionaire that she smoked marijuana “very infrequently” for eight years during her teens and twenties, according to a document made public by Wikileaks.
Rice described the activity as the “rare recreational use of marijuana prior to and in 1990,” adding that she had smoked “none since 1990.” That was the year Rice earned her doctorate from Oxford University in Britain.
Smoking pot was the only illegal activity Rice marked on her background form.
Rice was U.S. Ambassador to the UN when she appeared on Sunday news-talk shows as the lead Obama administration spokesman to discuss the Sept. 11, 2011, terrorist attacks on the U.S. consulate facility there in which four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens, were killed.
Rice blamed an anti-Muslim YouTube video that appeared briefly as the cause of the Benghazi attack. Rice became national security adviser in 2013.
Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton emailed her daughter Chelsea during the attacks that they were the work of terrorists, even though Clinton and President Obama both insisted for more than a week that the video was the cause.
Rice was assistant secretary of state for African affairs during the Clinton administration from 1997 to 2001.
