A diver who was caught in a cage with a Great White shark recalled the heart-pounding encounter and how he escaped being the man-eater’s next meal.
Millions of people have watched video of Ming Chan’s escape after the monstrous Great White shark smashed into his dive cage at Guadalupe Island, off the coast of Mexico.

“I feel that his panic. And that short moment that was when I think that ‘Hey, come on buddy, you don’t want to come into my cage,'” Chan told the Today Show about the moment he realized he was trapped in the small cage with the shark.
The massive shark, believed to be about 10 feet long, overshot its jump to get at bait it was offered and landed on the other side of the diving cage bars. The video showed those on the boat throwing open the cage hatch to allow the panicked shark to escape.

“Two of the dive masters service they know I’m in the cage,” Chan said, “but they have no idea what’s happening underwater.”
He didn’t “have time to get frightened,” Chan recalled but realized, to his horror, that there were other sharks circling around. “What will I do next?” Chan thought. “At the same time, there are two sharks below me.”
On the surface, panicked observers were preparing to jump in and rescue Chan as they debated whether anyone was even in the cage.
Chan, meanwhile, saw the cage was clear and crawled back into its safety before surfacing. On deck, Chan and the others on the boat were able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Amazingly, he said he would grab the chance to do it all again.
“I feel if in the future I do have time and chance,” Chan told the “Today” show, “I will go again.”
“Honestly, if you see the Great White that close face to face, it’s very exciting and good experience,” he said.
