Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton now has an eight-point lead over Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, according to a national poll published by NBC Tuesday.

Clinton maintained her hold on the 50 percent mark, and Trump edged closer to 42 percent of the vote. Clinton’s lead fell five points when the poll included libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein. Clinton’s numbers fell to 43 percent, and Trump lost some ground as well, earning 38 percent.

Johnson fared better than usual, netting 11 percent of the vote, as did Stein at 5 percent.

Trump maintains a majority with white voters, although significant gains were made with black voters. Only 87 percent supported the Democratic nominee, down from her usual mid-90s percent support. Asian voters were the minority most likely to support Trump, at 23 percent.

The NBC poll also surveyed feelings about race relations in the United States. A strong majority, 65 percent of registered voters, reported they felt race relations were getting worse. Only 10 percent of voters felt race relations were getting better.

That pessimism spread across the aisle, as 54 percent of Clinton supporters said race relations were getting worse and 78 percent of Trump supporters reported the same thing.

The Real Clear Average puts Clinton with a 5.5 percent lead over Trump nationwide in a head to head poll, and the last poll to feature Clinton at 50 percent was Bloomberg’s latest poll published earlier in August.

The NBC poll was conducted online from Aug 15 through Aug 21, and surveyed 17,459 registered voters. Results have an error estimate of plus or minus 1.1 percent.
