A New York City imam and his assistant were shot and killed execution-style in the middle of the day Saturday as they walked home from a mosque in Queens and it didn’t take long for Donald Trump to be blamed.
…never mind that there was nothing to suggest that was the case.
Imam Maulama Akonjee, 55, and Thara Uddinhis, 64, attired in traditional Muslim robes, had just left the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid mosque shortly before 2 p.m. when they were each shot in the back of the head, the New York Daily News reported.

As mourners gathered at the scene, a worshiper from the mosque pointed his finger at the GOP nominee.
“That’s not what America is about,” Khairul Islam told the Daily News. “We blame Donald Trump for this . . . Trump and his drama has created Islamophobia.”
More from the Daily Mail:
Police confirm the victims were not robbed but a source told the newspaper investigators haven’t ruled out a botched robbery because one of the men was found carrying a large amount of money.
Aknojee’ son-in-law is convinced the cold-blooded killing is because the men were Muslims.
“This is 100 percent a hate crime. My father-in-law was an imam, he wore traditional garb all the time,” Momin Ahmed told the New York Post.

NYPD Deputy Inspector Henry Sautner said no motive has been determined for the shooting, meaning it may be premature to call it a hate crime.
“There is nothing in the preliminary investigation that would indicate that they were targeted because of their faith,” Sautner said.
Hundreds of a people gathered Saturday night at the mosque to denounce the killings and shout, “We want justice!”
