Paul Nehlen’s reaction to Donald Trump’s endorsement of Speaker of the House Paul Ryan left some people scratching their heads.
The businessman is challenging Ryan who has represented Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District since 1999. Nehlen has come under the spotlight as Trump praised him while refusing to endorse Ryan, who is expected to win Wisconsin’s congressional primary on Tuesday, by a landslide.
But at a campaign rally in Green Bay on Friday, the Republican presidential nominee gave his formal endorsement of Ryan, and Nehlen’s reaction was reported by CNN’s Jeremy Diamond.

Nehlen applauded Trump’s endorsement of @SpeakerRyan, his opponent: “Mr. Trump did this for party unity and I applaud him for that.” /2

Finally, Nehlen says he’s still supporting Trump. Calls endorsement “the mark of a true leader.” Kind of still scratching my head… 3/3

Diamond wasn’t the only one scratching his head.
@JDiamond1 I’ve been scratching my head with you but honestly my scalp is getting sore.

@JDiamond1 @kakeenan We are getting screwed somehow Im sure. I hope Ryan’s district gets rid of his ass.

@JDiamond1 Let me unscratch your head…it’s called “playing ball.” It’s called politics. It’s called politics make strange bedfellows.

Other social media users praised Nehlen’s response.
.@JDiamond1 A nice sentiment by Nehlen. I wonder if things would’ve been different had Nehlen been within 70 points of Ryan.

Paul Nehlen (@pnehlen) has been incredibly gracious and statesmanlike in all of this.
— Bill Mitchell (@mitchellvii) August 6, 2016
.@pnehlen tweeted he’s at the Green Bay rally “in support of our party’s nominee.” — Nehlen’s a class act .RAT Ryan is no where in sight.

Despite Trump supporters expressing their support for the conservative underdog, Nehlen does not seem like a threat to Ryan, who is well-liked in his district.
