Melania Trump’s well-received speech at the 2016 GOP convention was quickly overshadowed by allegations of plagiarism.
It didn’t take long before people noticed a passage of Melania’s inspiring speech that sounded strikingly similar to Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 convention.
The accolades that were coming Melania’s way quickly turned into speculation…
Would she? Could she?
Surely she didn’t steal parts of Michelle Obama’s speech. After all, Melania, being an immigrant from a communist nation has quite enough unique material to draw from on her own.
And that’s exactly what the Trump campaign is saying this morning.
Trump Campaign Chairman Paul Manafort, is putting the accusations right back in the Clinton camp’s lap:
Just talked to Paul Manafort. He says there was no plagiarism, the lines from Melania Trump’s speech weren’t lifted.

Manafort on @CNN: “This is once again an example of how when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, she tries to demean her and take her down.”

Manafort joined CNN Tuesday morning to squash the growing controversy the best he could:

And the Trump team is out in force this morning:
CNN contributor/Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord on Melania possible plagiarism: “This is not Benghazi.”

Trump release: 1. Doesn’t deny plagiarism. 2. Doesn’t acknowledge it. 3. Doesn’t explain similarities w/ 2008 speech pic.twitter.com/o9VWwgQzY8

Melania had said in interview prior to giving the speech that she had written it mostly herself, but now there are some folks calling on speech writers to be fired.

In case you missed it, here is what the hubbub is about, and one of the original tweets that sparked the controversy:
