Fox News correspondent Geraldo Rivera’s defense of his boss and long-time friend, CEO Roger Ailes left many scratching their heads.
The Fox News Chairman and CEO was accused of sexual harassment in a lawsuit brought by former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, who alleged she was fired from her job for refusing Ailes’ sexual advances. Ailes has denied the allegations.
While other women have come forward also claiming sexual harassment by the 76 year-old Ailes, many more have come to his defense.
Most recently, Rivera posted a comment defending his friend on Twitter.
I’ve known him 40 years. He’s about as flirty as the grizzly in #TheRevenant. I stand with Roger Ailes

But the intention may have been clouded by the confusion his post created on social media.
The film “The Revenant,” which was released earlier this year, scored Leonardo DiCaprio an Academy Award for “Best Actor.” The grizzly bear that Rivera referred to viciously attacked DiCaprio’s character in the movie but rumors arose when the movie debuted that the bear was actually raping him.
The production company quickly squashed that speculation but Twitter users had not forgotten.
@GeraldoRivera I’m going to say this is the strangest tweet I’ve ever read. #SheWasAskingForIt #MyGOP pic.twitter.com/zQ0U0ugCPO

Well now I believe that bear was raping DiCaprio in The Revenant. https://t.co/idSduaHvai

only problem with this otherwise flawless tweet is that the bear in the revenant doesn’t flirt, it rapes and mauls https://t.co/tyaWxjYC1Q

@GeraldoRivera given what happens to Leo in the movie, this is a very clever endorsement of Ailes’ accusers.

You might want to come up with another analogy. Didn’t the grizzly rape or try too in the movie. @GeraldoRivera

@GeraldoRivera So no flirting, just assault and rape and biting and murderous intent. Great.

@GeraldoRivera This is… uh… maybe a bad example
