It’s not that he did it, but that he did it with gusto . . .
Donald Trump picked up a key endorsement on Friday that’s sure to help the presumptive Republican presidential nominee with reluctant conservatives.
U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy announced during an interview on MSNBC’s “Meet the Press Daily” that he is a Trump guy.
A surprise to some, after Trump called Gowdy a loser, among other harsh things, early in the primary. The expectation of an endorsement was that it could be timid, at best.
“I actually didn’t think I was that hesitant,” he explained. “I was a Rubio guy and Marco lost, but I will enthusiastically support the Republican nominee.”
“I endorse Donald Trump,” the South Carolina Republican said.
“If Marco had won I would have expected the [Ted] Cruz supporters and the [John] Kasich supports and the Trump supporters to support my guy,” he explained.
“My guy lost,” the former prosecutor added. “When the jury speaks, I’m going to support the jury.”

When Gowdy first announced his support for Trump’s then-rival Rubio back in December, the real estate tycoon was pretty hard on the lawmaker:
“@Sir_Max: andreajmarkley: Rubio finally gets an endorsement – from #Benghazi loser Gowdy #Tcot #pjnet https://t.co/lJcHG0IHaM via dailyne
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 27, 2015
“@mitchellvii: Face it, Trey Gowdy failed miserably on Benghazi. He allowed it to drag out and in the end, let Hillary get away with murder.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 27, 2015
“@mitchellvii: My prediction on the Trey Gowdy endorsement of Rubio is that it will do nothing for Rubio and finish Gowdy.”

And while the jury may still be out on whether Trump supporters welcome Gowdy aboard, some on the right have already ruled on the development.
Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
