Trump and Cruz fans who are fearful that the Republican Party is about to change the nominating rules prior to the national convention can let out a sigh of relief.
Fox News Neil Cavuto asked Republican National Committeeman Peter Feaman what was going to happen at the rules committee meeting scheduled for Friday.
“There’s really not going to be much on the table,” Feaman, who represents Florida at the national level, said. “No matter what we decide, if we decide anything down here will have absolutely no effect on the convention rules committee.”
He emphasized that party unity would be high on the agenda at Friday’s meeting.
“No matter who our nominee ends up being, Neil, we’re going to be 100 percent behind that person,” Feaman, who’s also an attorney, said.
Cavuto pointed out that front-runner Donald Trump believes he’ll enter the July 18 Cleveland convention with 1400 delegates in his pocket.
“If that’s it, that’s great,” Feaman said. “That’s our nominee and now we go forward to defeat whoever the Democrat nominee is going to be in November. Whether it’s Cruz, whether it’s Trump, we’re ready to get unified”
Looking forward, he said that “it’s highly unlikely that the rules would be changed to allow someone other that our two leaders [Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz] in to battle it out at the convention, given that the convention rules committee “will be made up of mostly Cruz and Trump delegates.”
He also had a dire warning for Trump delegates who are threatening to turn tail should the billionaire businessman not win the nomination.
If the Trump backers walk out, you’re insuring another four years of Obama-type leadership,” he said. “You’re insuring that you’re going to get three Supreme Court picks are not going to subscribe to Republican values.”
Feaman is also the author of “Wake Up America!” and “The Next Nightmare: How Political Correctness Will Destroy America.”
