After six former contestants of NBC’s “The Apprentice” condemned Donald Trump, who hosted the show for more than a decade, at a press conference on Friday, CNN’s Don Lemon had two of the participants on his program, along with a former contestant who supports the Republican front-runner.
The former contestants ripped Trump’s “campaign of sexism, xenophobia, racism, violence and hate,” prompting the candidate to respond in a statement slamming them as “failing wannabes” looking for publicity.
Lemon began the segment by telling viewers they may want to “sit down and pay close attention. Trust me.”
And he was right.
Joining him in the studio were Kwame Jackson and Randal Pinkett, who took part in the earlier news conference, along with Andy Dean, a former contestant who supports Trump for president, via remote feed.
Jackson and Pinkett wasted little time in going after Trump and his “bombastic personality,” to include some serious allegations.
“We are bordering on the precipice of fascism,” Jackson said of Trump at one point, pointing to his “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” persona.
Dean responded by noting that his cohorts are Democrats and insisting they were ungrateful for the “amazing opportunity” Trump gave them by putting them on “The Apprentice.”
The discussion got intense when Lemon came back from a break as the two sides clashed over African-American support for Trump. In the final few minutes, Dean called Pinkett out for not telling the truth after he complained that all of Trump’s executives are white males.
“It’s not true,” Dean said, shaking his head.
