Fox News blasts Trump for ‘sick obsession’ with Megyn Kelly; network’s stars join in

Fox News has had enough of Donald Trump’s “sick obsession” with host Megyn Kelly and are calling the Republican presidential front-runner out for his “endless barrage of crude and sexist verbal assaults.”

In a now familiar refrain, Trump took to social media on Friday to call for a boycott of Kelly’s program on Fox News, saying she is the “most overrated person on TV.”

In a statement provided to BizPac Review, the Fox News Network said Trump’s continued attacks against Kelly equate to abuse.

“Donald Trump’s vitriolic attacks against Megyn Kelly and his extreme, sick obsession with her is beneath the dignity of a presidential candidate who wants to occupy the highest office in the land,” the network stated. “Megyn is an exemplary journalist and one of the leading anchors in America — we’re extremely proud of her phenomenal work and continue to fully support her throughout every day of Trump’s endless barrage of crude and sexist verbal assaults.”

“As the mother of three young children, with a successful law career and the second highest rated show in cable news, it’s especially deplorable for her to be repeatedly abused just for doing her job.”

A number of Kelly’s colleagues at Fox News came to her defense on social media, beginning with Bret Baier, the widely respected host of “Special Report,” who responded to several tweets from Trump this week calling Kelly “crazy.”

“The Five” co-host Dana Perino responded to Baier’s comment with a “hear, hear.”

Fox News host Geraldo Rivera, who has been somewhat supportive of Trump,  also responded to the candidate’s “obsession,” saying “enough” in spanish — “basta.”

The Trump campaign responded late Friday by doubling down on earlier attacks, calling Kelly “highly overrated” and saying Trump will continue to defend himself from the “unfair and inaccurate coverage he receives on her second-rate show.”
