A Mexican national was sentenced to 8 years in jail for 2 felony counts of voter fraud.
The news bolsters President Trump’s contention that illegal voting is more widespread than people realize.
A Texas jury found Rosa Maria Ortega guilty of illegally voting in a 2012 general election and a 2014 Republican primary race when she knew she wasn’t a U.S. citizen.
Ortega, 37, was indicted in 2015 but was just sentenced this week. She is a legal U.S. resident but is not allowed to vote because she is not a citizen.

At trial, Ortega made conflicting statements in her defense. In one instance, Ortega claimed she didn’t know she wasn’t allowed to vote.
In another instance, Rosa Maria Ortega claimed she thought she was a citizen, the Star-Telegram reported. “All my life I was taught I was a U.S. citizen,” Ortega testified.
However, prosecutors showed that Ortega had checked a box on her driver’s license form indicating she was not a citizen. Ortega was sentenced to 8 years in prison and a $5,000 fine on each count.
Ortega’s conviction spotlights the growing public concern over voter fraud. Voter advocacy group True The Vote said they verified more than 3 million votes cast by non-citizens in the 2016 presidential election.
We have verified more than three million votes cast by non-citizens.

Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly said it is laughably easy it is for an illegal alien to vote, and that it could happen on a large scale in states like California, where illegals are allowed to get driver’s licenses.
In California and 11 other states, illegal aliens have the right to get driver’s licenses. In some states, this automatically registers them to vote. While illegals are not allowed to vote, there’s no real monitoring to ensure otherwise.
“You need a social security number. That can be done by a computer. And as we all know, phony social security numbers are rampant,” O’Reilly said.
