Bigoted leaked team Hillary emails brutally mock Catholics and evangelicals

The latest WikiLeaks release of Clinton emails shows senior Hillary Clinton staffers mocking two major faith groups — evangelicals and Catholics — Fox News Channel’s Trace Gallagher reported Tuesday on “The Kelly File.”

Those included in the email chain are Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and communications director Jennifer Palmieri, as well as John Halpin from the Center for American Progress.

Halpin accused some Catholics of engaging in an “amazing bastardization of the faith,” and specifically criticized 21st Century Fox Chairman Rupert Murdoch, CEO of Fox News, and NewsCorp Chairman Robert Thomson for raising their children in the faith.

“They must be attracted to the systemic thought and severely backward gender relations, and must be totally unaware of Christian democracy,” Halpin wrote of Murdoch and Thompson in the 2011 email chain.

“I imagine they think it the is the most socially acceptable, politically conservative religion–their rich friends wouldn’t understand if they became evangelicals” Palmieri agreed.

Podesta, who is a practicing Catholic, was included in the email chain but didn’t directly respond to the criticism.

After the release of the emails Tuesday, reaction was swift.

“These anti-Catholic remarks are bad enough,” the Catholic League responded. “But it makes one wonder what else Clinton’s chiefs and others associated with the campaign are saying about Catholics and Catholicism.”

The League also observed that Catholics are among those the Clinton campaign should reach out to, given that a majority favor Clinton over her Republican rival, Donald Trump.

Fox News host Megyn Kelly brought on Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, for his reaction.

“They believe that people who actually want to live by their faith are backwater people,” Perkins said. “[They see religion as a] glorified social club–if you want to…live your life according to [Scripture], you’re going to run into trouble with Hillary Clinton.”

He added that the emails show the Clinton campaign’s “hostility toward religious freedom,” and warned that “their religious freedom is at stake in this election.”
