Sen. JD Vance (R-OH) called out Democrats who continue to “ramp up the rhetoric” in their speeches at the Democratic National Convention this week.
The Republican vice presidential nominee proposed they should “pump the brakes” on the “apocalyptic” verbiage against former President Donald Trump in the interest of safety considering the GOP nominee was the victim of an assassination attempt just over a month ago.
“So, I hope that they remember when you tell the American people that this guy must be stopped at all costs, most people are going to respond to that reasonably, some people are going to take crazy actions and take matters into their own hands,” Vance said while speaking with reporters in North Carolina on Wednesday.
“I encourage my Democratic friends to maybe pump the brakes a little bit on the apocalyptic rhetoric around Donald Trump,” he said.

He noted that Democrats “toned it down” following the assassination attempt at the Pennsylvania rally in July, but the senator feels that is no longer the case as seen in DNC speeches this week that seem, at times, to be focused wholly on Trump.
Democrats “recognize that when you say that the guy is an existential threat to American democracy, sometimes that means crazy people are going to take actions into their own hands,” Vance stated.
Former President Obama took a crude dig at his successor during his speech this week as many others on the stage continued to fear-monger the masses about the threat Trump poses to the nation if elected. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) told Vance during his DNC speech that Republican voters “tried to kill your predecessor” referring to the events of Jan. 6, 2021.

Vance believes it is “Donald Trump’s leadership” that set the tone of unity following the assassination attempt on his life.
“I mean, he had every right to stand up after he was shot in the ear and get really pissed off and blame the Democrats, and what he instead did, was call for national calm and national unity,” Vance said.
“I think to the extent the temperature’s been dropped at all, it’s because of Donald Trump, and again, people [accused] him of being a cowboy but he responded to that moment with a remarkable amount of clarity and calm,” he added.
