Illegal migrants arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol can now be deported thanks to a new bill passed in the House on Thursday.
The Protect Our Communities from DUIs Act passed despite the refusal of 150 Democrats to support it. The amendment to the Immigration and Nationality Act was supported by 274 lawmakers – which included only 59 Democrats – who voted in favor of deporting any migrant arrested for drunk driving.
The bill, introduced by Rep. Barry Moore, R-Ala., would also ensure that those arrested and deported are not allowed back into the U.S.

“In the United States, someone dies in a crash with an impaired driver every 45 minutes. I lost two of my young newlywed constituents to an illegal immigrant driving under the influence of alcohol,” Moore told Fox News Digital.
“Angel and Jeremy were riding a motorcycle together when out of nowhere an illegal alien, under the influence of alcohol, collided into the newlyweds with his pickup. Their lives were cut dramatically short,” the congressman said on the House floor.
“Sadly, tragedies like this are not uncommon across our country,” he added. “Consider this case from Missouri, where just two months ago an illegal alien from Honduras was sentenced for driving drunk at 100 mph and killing a man.”

With the ongoing disaster at the southern U.S. border and an impending vote on impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Republicans have focused attention on illegal immigration issues while Democrats continue to claim it is all a political game.
“They don’t want to solve the problem, they want to keep the problem going as a campaign issue,” Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., said during the debate on Moore’s bill. “So don’t come up here and talk about the problems on the southern border if you won’t give the president any means to deal with it.”

“If you are a guest in this country and you drive drunk, you should be removed from our country period,” Moore said Thursday.
The fact that a staggering number of Democrats would not vote in favor of the common-sense bill sparked heated responses on social media, including from X owner Elon Musk who wondered “What the heck is going on!?”

Some clarification on the bill’s specifics still did not persuade those who applauded its passing.
Why wouldn’t they want to deport those people too? How is it good for American citizens to have non-citizens driving drunk here?
