Former US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Ben Carson, weighed in on the issue of race with an impassioned post about the new coach of the New England Patriots.
The retired neurosurgeon shared a message on X calling for an end to the “victim” mentality in response to a video clip of the Patriots’ first black head coach Jerod Mayo during a press conference.
“I do see color,” Mayo replied to a reporter’s question in Massachusetts on Wednesday. “Because I believe if you don’t see color, you can’t see racism. And whatever happens — black, white, even someone with disabilities — for the most part, people are like, ‘Don’t.’ When they’re young, they kinda make the spot hot.”
Carson found it “absurd” that the question had even come up when football should be the main topic of discussion.
“It is absurd that these types of topics have found their way into modern day NFL press conferences,” he wrote on X.

“We need to end the ‘victim’ mentality that consumes this country. You can be anything you want to be, you just have to work hard!” he added.
“That’s America! That’s the dream! I am living proof of that!” he concluded. “Go make it a great day today! Work hard! You’re in America! No dream is too small!”
Carson, who was raised by a single mom in inner-city Detroit and struggled in his early school years, went on to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom and even ran his own race for president in 2016. He was eventually appointed as HUD Secretary by then-President Donald Trump.
Carson’s impassioned post earned praise and agreement on X:
