A spokesperson for Bud Light parent company Anheuser-Busch denied it is currently sponsoring an all-ages gay pride event, despite the event’s marketing materials having listed the company as a sponsor.
The all-ages drag queen after-party for Pride in the Pines, an event put on by the LGBT organization Flagstaff Pride, listed Bud Light as its sponsor as of Wednesday morning, but had updated its flyer to remove Bud Light by that evening following the DCNF’s reporting on the event. A representative from FleishmanHillard, a public relations firm that represents Bud Light, told the DCNF the company had been “incorrectly” listed as a sponsor on the event’s poster, but did not respond to follow-up questions about whether the company had previously been a sponsor or why it was listed as a sponsor to begin with.
“Bud Light is not a sponsor of this event. The event organizers have issued a corrected version of the poster,” an Anheuser-Busch spokesperson told the DCNF, only addressing whether Bud Light was currently sponsoring the event.
Flagstaff Pride also said the poster inaccurately listed Bud Light as a sponsor in a Facebook post Wednesday evening.
“We put out an incorrect promotional poster which included Bud Light as a sponsor,” the statement read, attaching a new version of the flyer with Bud Light removed.
The email only addressed whether Bud Light is currently a sponsor; it made no mention of whether Bud Light had previously sponsored or pledged to sponsor the event or why it had been listed as a sponsor in numerous spots on the event’s website.
Bud Light is still listed on the Flagstaff Pride sponsors page as of Thursday morning, and a flyer for Flagstaff Pride’s daytime event, which is also open to all ages and features drag performers, still lists Bud Light as a sponsor.
The after-party is set to feature nine queens including host Mya McKenzie, former Miss Phoenix Pride and Miss Gay Arizona America, and Kim Etiquette, who performs as a “stupid housewife” character, according to his Instagram.
The daytime pride event is offering free tickets to children 10 and under, and prices for older attendees range from $20-$100. After-party tickets start at $14.
Event organizers did not respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment, and the representative for Anheuser-Busch did not respond to the DCNF’s follow-up emails.
