University employee arrested, reportedly lied about being raped twice to get revenge on coworker

A Stanford University employee named Jennifer Ann Gries, 25, reportedly lied about being raped twice on campus last year to get back at an innocent coworker, visiting two separate hospitals to report the phony sexual assaults, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office.

“These false reports are damaging, both for true survivors of sexual assault and for the members of our community who experienced fear and alarm from the reports,” Stanford University said in a statement given to Fox News Digital.

The DA says that Gries first reported being raped in August to nurses at Valley Medical Center in San Jose. She reportedly told a nurse that a man she described as a “black male, slender, young, 6 ft., late 20s” grabbed her in a campus parking lot and then dragged her to a bathroom where he assaulted her.

Gries, a Stanford Housing Services employee, told nurses, “He grabbed both my arms, had me on the ground facing up. He told me not to scream.”

Then in October of last year, she went to Stanford Hospital and underwent a second rape examination. She claimed this time that she was returning to her office from lunch when she was grabbed by the same man who then dragged her into a basement storage closet and raped her.

After that allegedly concocted incident, Gries claimed she became pregnant with twins but lost them in a miscarriage. The DA’s office claims there is no evidence that ever occurred.

“The investigation revealed that she was not pregnant at that time,” the DA’s office stated, according to CBS News.

The reported attacks triggered campus-wide safety alerts and campus unrest, prosecutors noted.

Once the claims were made public, they began to unravel. Prosecutors contend that the rape examination kits were immediately analyzed by authorities because of the extreme public safety risk of a potential sex offender hunting for victims at the school. The lab results from the exams “were not consistent with her story,” officials claim.

Following both examinations, Gries signed consent forms acknowledging that the attendant nurses who administered the exams were required to inform law enforcement. She also signed forms that set her up to receive public funds from the California Victim of Crimes Board, which can award victims up to $70,000. It’s unknown how much she received for the alleged assaults.

In text messages between Gries and a colleague, she allegedly blamed herself for the assaults.

“Can’t I just make his life a living hell myself,” Gries texted her coworker. “I need to start standing up for myself…. I am so annoyed…. I’m coming up with a plan. That way he’s shitting his pants for multiple days”.

Gries admitted to lying about the rapes in a January interview with a district attorney investigator. She then wrote an apology letter to the man whom she accused of raping her.

“She stated she was upset with the victim because she felt he gave her ‘false intention’ and turned her friends against her,” prosecutors stated.

Gries was placed on a leave of absence according to the university and the school “will be reviewing her employment.”

The man Gries accused was never terminated. From the beginning, he denied any sexual or romantic contact with her, according to KTVU.

The incident “scarred” him and the false accusations took their toll on him. He was caring for his mother at the time who fell ill and later died.

He told investigators, “This is disgusting. I don’t feel human. I don’t feel human at all.”

“Sexual assault and other sexual offenses regrettably continue to be prevalent both at Stanford and in our broader society,” the university said in a statement. “Our steadfast commitment to provide compassionate support for survivors of sexual assault and to prevent these acts from occurring in the first place remains unabated.”

District Attorney Jeff Rosen commented that false rape accusations are “rare and deeply destructive crimes.” He says he feels bad for not only those who were falsely accused but students who were frightened by the alleged incidents and “legitimate sexual assault victims who wonder if they will be believed.”

Gries is reportedly being charged with two felony counts of perjury and two misdemeanor counts of making a false crime report.
