DC passes bill into law allowing illegal immigrants, other noncitizens to vote

The Washington, D.C. city council made it official on Monday, illegal immigrants and other non-citizens can now vote in local elections. The Democrat-run district that serves as the nation’s capital went so far as to allow foreign diplomats to cast a vote.

That’s according to various reports that the city council passed the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act after a 30-day congressional review period ended — the GOP-led House pushed to block the D.C. law from taking effect but the Democrat-run Senate let the clock expire without taking action.

The law requires a person to be 18 and to have lived in D.C. for 30 days to be eligible to vote, providing they do not claim voting residence in any U.S. state or U.S. territory.

WAMU reporter Martin Austermuhle noted in a tweet that “the new law still has to be funded, to the tune of $1.6 million to create the new voter registry for non-citizens. That’s not a big amount for the D.C. budget, but it’s still worth watching to see if and how this is implemented in time for 2024 elections.”

The new law puts into action what many on the right have been saying for years about the Democratic Party’s full-on embrace of open borders, that the party sees illegal immigrants as future voters who will strengthen their base. A belief corporate media consistently dismissed as a conspiracy theory.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., introduced a resolution last month to disprove the legislation, according to Fox News.

“Voting is a pillar of American democracy and a constitutional right that undeniably needs to be protected and preserved for citizens of this country,” Comer said. “The D.C. Council’s reckless decision to allow non-U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants the right to vote in local elections is an attack on the foundation of this republic.”

Then again, one can reasonably argue that for the Marxist-inspired progressive left, undermining the foundation of this republic is the point.

Of course, only in post-Obama America can a Democratic politician describe an effort to destroy democracy as upholding “democratic rights,” as seen by D.C. council chairman Phil Mendelson:
