Red state parent sues school district for providing daughter with laptop that led to kidnapping, sexual assault

Daily Caller News Foundation

A Florida parent is suing a school district after her daughter was allegedly lured and assaulted through the use of a school laptop issued during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Monday lawsuit.

In 2020, 26-year-old Keith Green allegedly continuously contacted Danielle Vega’s 11-year-old daughter, listed as Jane Doe, through her school issued laptop eventually leading to her kidnapping and sexual assault, according to a Monday lawsuit. Vega is suing the Orange County School Board for providing her daughter with a laptop for remote learning that allegedly lacked parental and software controls, giving her access to sites that allowed her to be contacted by Green.

The school provided Vega’s daughter the laptop during the COVID-19 pandemic to aid in remote learning, the lawsuit stated. Green contacted the girl during the school day through her laptop and coaxed the 11-year-old out of her home to move in with him, “lay low” and pretend to be his niece.

Green kidnapped the girl in September 2020 and sexually assaulted her, according to the lawsuit. He was arrested and charged with kidnapping, luring or enticing a child, lewd or lascivious molestation, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, solicitation of a minor via computer and traveling to meet a minor after using a computer, Click Orlando reported.

When Vega requested a non-electronic education for her daughter, the school only gave the option of a different laptop for the girl, the lawsuit alleged.

Because of the incident, the girl is allegedly missing the proper credits for sixth grade and did not return to school until 2021, according to the lawsuit.

“Since the assault took place, defendant has not ensured that Jane Doe has ongoing access to education free of the hostile environment this kidnapping and sexual abuse created for her,” the lawsuit alleged.

The Orange County School Board and Vega’s attorneys did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
