Douglas Wise, a former Defense Intelligence Agency deputy director, told The Australian in an interview that a “significant portion” of the documents found on Hunter Biden’s laptop “had to be real,” but says he doesn’t regret signing a letter contesting the laptop.
The letter was written in October 2020 and was signed by 51 former intelligence officials who cast doubt on the laptop’s authenticity, claiming it had the markings of Russian disinformation.
Wise told The Australian, “All of us figured that a significant portion of that content had to be real to make any Russian disinformation credible.”
The intel officer also claimed that he was “not surprised” that the laptop was authenticated.
Intelligence officials coming out more than two years after the letter was signed and claiming that they knew all along that a significant portion of the laptop information was real, reeks of damage control on their part.
Wise is now walking back the importance of the letter that the White House touted and used as a basis for claiming the laptop was the work of the Russians.
“The letter said it had the earmarks of Russian deceit and we should consider that as a possibility; it did not say Hunter Biden was a good guy, it didn’t say what he did was right and it wasn’t exculpatory, it was just a cautionary letter,” he said justifying what they wrote at the time.
“I don’t regret signing it because the context is important,” Wise asserted. “Remember Giuliani had just been in Ukraine trying to dig up evidence on the Bidens and he met with a known Russian intelligence official.”
We just can’t tolerate this kind of crap. The people have to rise up. I do believe that perhaps there’s something that will be done with this new house. I sure as shit hope so.

The letter from the 51 intel officers came five days after the New York Post revealed the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Wise still contends that the laptop’s “chain of custody” could have been compromised.
“Russians or even ill-intended conservative elements could have planted stuff in there,” he baselessly claimed.
The intel chief was joined by former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former CIA Director John Brennan, who all stated that there are “factors that make us suspicious of Russian involvement.”
“The arrival on the US political scene of emails purportedly belonging to Vice President Biden’s son Hunter, much of it related to his time serving on the Board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation,” the two-page letter charged.
Douglas Wise, along with the other "Intel experts" will have the opportunity to explain their lies, sworn in, before Congress.
This guy's signature was a lie directed to mislead you. It was election interference which led to our current mess in Washington.#BidenCrimeFamilly pic.twitter.com/taHE6TVYlO— Dan Walter (@DanWalt89303818) January 17, 2023
“We want to emphasize that we do not know if the emails … are genuine or not and that we do not have evidence of Russian involvement,’ the letter contended.
The former intel officials also went on to state that it is “our view that the Russians are involved in the Hunter Biden email issue” and “it is high time that Russia stops interfering in our democracy.”
The assertions by the intel officers incentivized the leftist media to censor the New York Post over its Hunter Biden laptop revelations. The letter ostensibly provided the basis for the quelling of information concerning the laptop in order to protect Biden just before the presidential election. Much of that information is now coming to light via Elon Musk’s release of the “Twitter Files.”
Wise’s admission is another headache for the president as he comes under investigation for the mishandling of classified information. The House Oversight Committee is also launching another investigation into the Biden family’s business dealings and Republicans have formed the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of Federal Government which will be going after the FBI over the laptop and its alleged collusion with Twitter.
