Condescending Andrea Mitchell lectures journalist on his use of term ‘pro-life’ in middle of report

MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell took it upon herself to pettily interrupt Senior Capitol Hill correspondent Garrett Haake for daring to use the term “pro-life” while reporting on Rep. Nancy Mace’s stance on two “anti-abortion bills” this week.

“She told reporters after the fact that at the end of the day, she was, as she described herself, ‘pro-life,’” Haake stated concerning Mace. “She felt it was important to vote for these measures despite their potentially politically damaging — or politically unappealing appearance if you will —” he began to say before Mitchell interjected, cutting him off.

“Garrett, let me just interrupt and say that ‘pro-life’ is a term that they — an entire group wants to use. But that’s not an accurate description,” she said, calling her colleague on the carpet.

“I’m using it because it’s the term she used to describe herself, Andrea,” Haake replied in a professional manner.

“I understand. I understand,” Mitchell responded.

The rude incident was followed by a very awkward and prolonged silence before Mitchell finally moved on. The exchange made it even more apparent that Mitchell is pro-abortion.

“Anyway, that was her explanation,” Mitchell eventually continued.

That was followed by even more tense silence. Haake evidently did not know whether he should proceed after being called on the carpet for his reporting or not. Mitchell stepped in to change topics.

Senator Mike Lee nailed Mitchell over the incident.

“I don’t think there is much room for doubt as to which side of the abortion debate accurately and collectively describes itself as pro-life. If Andrea Mitchell is self-conscious about which side she’s on — and there’s no mystery there — maybe she should think about why,” he noted on Twitter.

Mace has made headlines recently for her willingness to call out fellow Republicans such as Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and George Santos (R-N.Y.), and for her outspoken criticism of how the GOP-controlled House has approached the issue of abortion.

In an interview Tuesday with Politico, Mace attacked Republicans on the issue of abortion, “We learned nothing from the midterms if this is how we’re going to operate in the first week. Millions of women across the board were angry over overturning Roe v. Wade. I represent a district that the vast majority of people, men, and women alike, did not agree with it.”

“I would like to see us move in a more centrist direction on this particular issue,” she said, adding she’d like to increase access to birth control, protections for women who are victims of rape and incest, and address backlogs in rape kits.

Mace told Mitchell in an interview that the House bills are failing to be “serious about balancing the rights of women and protecting the right to life,” and described herself as “pro-life” but supporting exceptions such as rape, incest, and the life of the mother. She also pushed birth control and said she wants to address rural areas of the country where women lack access to OB-GYN services.

The Associated Press Stylebook recommended last May that reporters avoid using the terms “pro-life” and “pro-choice” unless they are used in direct quotations. In October, the AP also rejected “fetal heartbeat” and “late-term abortion” as valid terms.

House Republicans passed two bills on Wednesday that are related to abortion.

One of the bills slammed political violence against pro-life crisis pregnancy centers. Nearly every Democrat opposed it. The measure passed 222 to 219 with only three Democrats supporting it.

A wave of violent acts against crisis pregnancy centers, churches, and other pro-life organizations occurred after the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade and it has been studiously ignored by the left. The resolution was proposed to address the situation.

Fox News reports, “Approximately 70% of abortion-related threats of violence in the U.S. since the Dobbs decision have been against pro-life groups, Christopher Wray, the head of the FBI, said at a recent Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing.”

A second bill was passed by the GOP but was once again voted against by nearly every Democrat. It penalized doctors who did not attempt to save the life of infants born alive after a failed abortion.
