The Biden White House is choosing optics over the “concern” for the new strain of the coronavirus known as omicron, which has about 50 mutations across its genome compared to less than 20 by the delta variant.

Citing a meme the network obtained, ABC News reported Monday that the White House’s Office of Management and Budget is telling federal agencies they should hold off on suspending or firing federal workers for not complying with President Biden’s vaccine mandate until after the holidays.

“This change, which has not yet been publicly announced, comes as President Joe Biden is putting pressure on private employers to embrace their own vaccine mandates,” ABC News reported. “Ninety-two percent of federal workers have already had at least one vaccine dose, according to the Office of Management and Budget. The federal workforce’s compliance rate stands at 96.5%, meaning employees have had at least one vaccine dose or have a pending or approved exception or extension request.”

The news comes after a federal appeals court recently halted enforcement of the president’s vaccine and testing requirements for private businesses, calling it “fatally flawed” and “staggeringly overbroad,” the court argued that the decree likely exceeds the federal government’s authority and raises “serious constitutional concerns.” The administration moved to suspend its enforcement of the mandate shortly thereafter, though the push for private employers to ignore the order continued.

As for the omicron variant, the president said on Monday that it’s “a cause for concern, not a cause for panic,” but continued to stress the critical need to get vaccinated.

“The very day the World Health Organization identified the new variant, I took immediate steps to restrict travel from countries in Southern Africa,” Biden said. “But while we have — that travel restrictions can slow the speed of Omicron, it cannot prevent it But here’s what it does: It gives us time.  It gives us time to take more actions, to move quicker, to make sure people understand you have to get your vaccine. You have to get the shot.”

The remarks come after Biden appealed to the world community last week, saying “the news about this new variant should make clearer than ever why this pandemic will not end until we have global vaccinations.”

Yet, his administration is taking the next 6 weeks off for the holidays when it comes to complying with the president’s own order.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the hypocrisy from Twitter:
