‘I’m not resigning!’ Kellyanne Conway hits back at Biden over his demand she quit board appointment

Former top Trump political adviser Kellyanne Conway ripped President Joe Biden after his administration sent her a letter directing that she resign from a board she was appointed to by his predecessor.

Conway was one of 18 Trump appointees who received the demand they step down or be removed by Biden. The appointments are normally for three-year terms; past presidents, including Donald Trump, have left appointees from previous positions in place, but Biden’s administration is breaking that tradition.

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended the unprecedented action.

“The President’s objective is what any president’s objective is — to ensure you have nominees and people serving on these boards who are qualified to serve on them and who are aligned with your values. And so yes, that was an ask that was made,” she said.

“I will let others evaluate whether they think Kellyanne Conway and Sean Spicer and others were qualified, or not political, to serve on these boards, but the president’s qualification requirements are not your party registration, they are whether you’re qualified to serve and whether you’re aligned with the values of this administration,” she added.

But Conway, in a letter of her own — a screengrab of which she posted on Twitter — not only railed at Biden, but she invited him to resign following a string of policy failures during his short tenure including the “chaotic and deadly” pullout from Afghanistan, rising inflation, and an uncontrolled southwest border.

“Three former Directors of Presidential Personnel inform me that this request is a break from presidential norms. It certainly seems petty and political, if not personal,” Conway wrote.

“The result is that faithful and willing public servants will be discouraged or thwarted from service. Our service academies will risk being further politicized and polarized,” she added.

“Your decision is disappointing but understandable given the need to distract from a news cycle that has you mired in multiple self-inflicted crises and plummeting poll numbers, including a rise in new COVID cases, a dismal jobs report, inflation, record amounts of drugs coming across the southern border, and, of course, the chaotic and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan that has left hundreds of Americans and thousands of Afghan allies stranded under Taliban rule,” she added.

“It is an honor to serve on the Board of Visitors to the United States Air Force Academy,” Conway continued. “The brave men and women in uniform represent the best of our great nation. It was also a great privilege to serve a president whose actions resulted in the deaths of terrorists…rather than a president whose actions resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members.

“I’m not resigning, but you should,” Conway concluded.

Others who received letters demanding they resign clapped back as well, including Trump’s first press secretary, Sean Spicer, now a Newsmax TV host.

“Instead of focusing on the stranded Americans left in #Afghanistan, President Biden is trying to terminate the Trump appointees to the Naval Academy, West Point and Air Force Academy,” Spicer tweeted, going on to pledge a further response on his Wednesday evening show, “Spicer & Co.,” with co-host Lyndsay Keith.

Meaghan Mobbs, another Trump appointee asked to resign or be terminated, also fired back.

“Frankly, I find this whole act unconscionable and not all in the spirit by which this Administration promised to govern. President Biden ran on a supposed platform of unity but his actions speak directly to the contrary. Apparently, unity is only for those who conform,” she wrote in response, per a post on Twitter.

“When I joined the Board under the Trump Administration, there were holdovers from the Obama Administration. They were not terminated but instead served alongside Trump appointees. This mix of perspective, experience, and belief systems ensured there was diversity – a value the Democratic party purports to hold above all else,” she added.
