How hard is it to say ‘Yes we will get every American out?’ WH relying on Taliban, Psaki won’t ‘guarantee’ evacuation

White House press secretary Jen Psaki stunningly deflected and declined to answer when asked by a reporter if the Biden administration would guarantee Americans safe passage out of Afghanistan past the August 31 withdrawal deadline.

“Can you offer any guarantee to Americans and Afghan allies that if they remain there past the end of the month, US troops will help them evacuate?” a reporter asked Psaki in her first briefing in six days.

“Our focus right now is on doing the work at hand and on the task at hand,” Psaki stated Tuesday during her press briefing. “And that is day by day, getting as many American citizens, as many SIV applicants, as many members of the vulnerable population who are eligible to be evacuated, to the airport and out on planes.”

She added, “And we’re going to do that in an expeditious fashion. That is the focus of the president, of our Secretary of Defense, of our Secretary of State, and everybody on our national security team. So that is where we will keep our efforts.”

‘The president stands by his decision because he knows it’s in the interests of the United States, our national security, and the American people,’ Psaki proclaimed.

Biden is depending on the Taliban terrorists to help evacuate Americans out of the country even though just six weeks ago he said he didn’t trust them.

National security adviser Jake Sullivan joined Psaki in the press briefing. He told reporters that the administration expects the Taliban “will have to be watched and observed over time” concerning whether it is “prepared to meet their obligations to the basic human rights and human dignity of people, to the safe passage of people, to the airport.”

“The Taliban have informed us that they are prepared to provide the safe passage of civilians to the airport, and we intend to hold them to that commitment,” he asserted. He also noted that the administration is “in contact with the Taliban to ensure the safe passage of people to the airport.”

Sullivan refused to comment on “hypotheticals” concerning the evacuation of Americans from Afghanistan.

A White House official has stated that military and civilian flights from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul have resumed, according to Fox News.  They are claiming that in the last 24 hours, over 700 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan, including 150 American citizens. But that does not address the thousands of Americans who are hunkering down and praying that the Biden administration will get them out before the Taliban get to them.

The Pentagon has previously claimed that its goal was to evacuate between 5,000 and 9,000 people per day for the next two weeks. They are not coming even close to that number.

The Taliban are reportedly demanding that all U.S. troops and Americans get out of Afghanistan by Sept. 11. There are an estimated 11,000 Americans currently trapped in the country.

Assistant Secretary of State Robert Charles told Fox News that the number of American citizens who are waiting to be evacuated could be anywhere between 15,000 and 40,000, according to inside sources. That does not include 80,000 SIV (special immigrant visa) applications the State Department is currently handling, according to The Washington Post.

Regardless of the Pentagon’s assurances that there is “no threat” by the Taliban to Americans and the U.S. mission, former senior defense officials in contact with commanders on the ground in Kabul are claiming that the Taliban “has a ring outside of the airport and won’t let anyone inside it.”

The refusal to commit to the evacuation of Americans stranded in Afghanistan was met with severe criticism from conservatives on and off social media. People were shocked that the Biden administration would not commit to getting Americans out of the Taliban-ruled country.

“Just wow… that Jen Psaki can’t simply commit to helping get all Americans out of Afghanistan after August 31 is stunning…absolutely stunning,” radio host Jason Rantz tweeted in shock.

“So the admin didn’t take the time to plan, clear visa/entry issues and because of their Leeeroy Jenkins-esque withdrawal, American citizens will just be abandoned?” radio host Dana Loesch angrily tweeted. “DISASTER.”

Psaki and Sullivan were ripped on social media over their noncommittal answers on the rescue of Americans:
