Biden’s VA secretary announces US taxpayers will foot bill for vets’ gender reassignment surgery

With President Biden being steered by the progressive wing of the Democratic Party — as if there’s another wing —  the left is realizing a long sought-after goal, that being to use the U.S. military as a social justice laboratory.

At taxpayer expense, of course.

Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough announced Saturday during a Pride Month event in Orlando, Fla., that the VA is moving to offer transgender veterans gender confirmation surgery, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

McDonough said the decision reversing a 2013 ban is simply “the right thing to do,” as he vowed to create a “safe and caring” environment for all veterans.

House Veterans’ Affairs Committee ranking member Mike Bost, R-Ill., had a differing take on the announcement, claiming that the Biden White House is trying to win “the culture wars,” according to Military Times.

“This announcement clearly has more to do with advancing a radical liberal agenda than serving veterans,” he said. “It is a disgrace. This administration should rethink their priorities immediately.”

An expected two-year process to expand the VA’s capacity to provide and cover the surgeries comes as the secretary spoke of the need to overcome a “dark history” of discrimination against LGBTQ military service members, the newspaper reported.

“This time will allow VA to develop capacity to meet the surgical needs that transgender veterans have called for and deserved for a long time, and I am proud to begin the process of delivering it,” McDonough said.

“For generations, service members who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or related identities faced brazen discrimination or even worse, not just in our Armed Forces, but in so many aspects of their lives,” the secretary said. “That is the dark history we must overcome, at VA and in America, and it echoes to this day, in horrific incidents like the Pulse nightclub shooting that devastated this community five years ago.”

The Pulse nightclub is located in Orlando and the local LGBTQ community essentially hijacked an Islamic terrorist attack on Americans to make it an attack on the LGBTQ community — evidence suggests the radicalized Islamic gunman did not know he had targeted a gay club.

In making the announcement, McDonough cited reports from VA clinicians that show LGBTQ+ veterans often face considerable mental health harm, including a heightened risk of suicide, as a result of discrimination and being rejected by society, the Sentinel reported.

“LGBTQ+ veterans experience mental illness and suicidal thoughts at far higher rates than those outside their community,” he said. “But they are significantly less likely to seek routine care, largely because they fear discrimination.

“We’re making these changes not only because they are the right thing to do, but because they can save lives,” McDonough added.

Fewer than 4,000 veterans are expected to be interested in sex change surgery. Par for the course, when it comes to Democrats, the cost of the benefit hasn’t been calculated.

“Gender-confirmation surgery,” which is the politically correct term for a sex change procedure, is billed on the left as “lifesaving health care.”

Language manipulation is key to any worthy propaganda campaign, however, results from a 2018 Sweden study found that 10-15 years after surgical reassignment, suicide rates of those who underwent surgery rose to 20 times that of comparable peers.

Much like with medical marijuana, there is an entire industry of counter-information claiming otherwise.

McDonough also told those gathered that the VA is changing the name of the Veterans Health Administration’s LGBT health program to the LGBTQ+ Health Program.

He said the new title “proudly reflects new community standards of inclusiveness.”

“We’re making a concerted effort to create a safe and caring environment for LGBTQ+ veterans in all of our hospitals,” McDonough said.

In an unrelated matter, more than 130 Republican members of Congress sent the VA secretary a letter last week asking for assurances that the VA won’t change its rules to provide abortion or abortion-related services under Biden, according to Fox News.
