Five-time Grammy award-nominated singer Macy Gray wrote an op-ed that proclaims that the “tattered, dated, divisive, and incorrect” American flag needs to be replaced by a new and improved Juneteenth one that “represents ALL of us.”
The article published by MarketWatch on the same day that President Joe Biden signed a bill proclaiming Juneteenth a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the 1860s. It should be noted that former President Trump’s Platinum Plan also called for making the day a federal holiday.
“God bless those believers, they can have it. Like the Confederate, it is tattered, dated, divisive, and incorrect. It no longer represents democracy and freedom. It no longer represents ALL of us. It’s not fair to be forced to honor it. It’s time for a new flag,” Gray stated. She even provided her own version of a new flag with 52 stars that include Washington, DC, and Puerto Rico as states. The Juneteenth flag’s colors are red, white, and blue and it’s been around since 1997 under a number of names.
Gray went on to attack the virtue of the freest and greatest nation on earth: “America is great,” she wrote. “It is beautiful. Pure, it ain’t. It is broken and in pieces.”
She posited that the stripes should be colored off-white because of America’s tainted history and that the stars should be the “colors of ALL of us — your skin tone and mine.” Gray wrote that she would keep the blue “vigilance and perseverance” and the red “valor” depicted in the American flag.
The singer appeared to further denigrate the flag by making a point that the current 50-star version was designed by a high school student in the late 1950s, just before Hawaii and Alaska acquired statehood: “Sixty-two years later, in 2021, we have changed and it’s time for a reset, a transformation,” she declared. “One that represents all states and all of us.”

Jenna Ellis, who was an attorney for former President Trump, tweeted her anger over Gray’s flag-hatred: “I don’t like to brag, but we’re kinda proud of that ragged old flag.”
“@MacyGraysLife had one hit song about 20 years ago and hasn’t done anything since,” Republican Lavern Spicer, who ran for Congress in Florida last year, tweeted out. “Now she wants to come out from the dark and say that she hates our flag. Your world would crumble if you weren’t in America.”
Gray has been a staunch supporter of progressive causes for years. Prior to the 2020 presidential election, she performed an “I Will Vote” concert to raise money for the Biden campaign.
She has released ten studio albums during her career, and received five Grammy Award nominations, winning one, and came to fame for her international hit single “I Try.” She has appeared in numerous films, including “Training Day,” “Spider-Man,” and “Scary Movie 3.”
She joins a number of Hollywood celebrities who are voicing disgust for America in general and for her flag.
Actor John Cusack went on a Twitter rant expressing his hatred for our nation as well, tweeting on Tuesday: “We aren’t great – we aren’t even mediocre – we’re f—king awful – full of cowards and corporate whores – Boeing gets to take out tax dollars – parade our soldiers – wrap themselves in the flag – while financially backing fascists ? We have no leaders – no soul – Just greed -”

He also tweeted: “They preach freedom at baseball games – but back insurrectionist coups and the overturning of elections – abc the party that would take away black and brown Americans right to vote . Yet they get to wrap themselves in the flag ? Had enough yet ?”
After Gray’s attack on Old Glory, the R&B musician, record producer, and actress received a strong rebuke from patriots and conservatives on social media.
Looks like Macy Gray would prefer living elsewhere!!!

Time to reset Macy Gray. Time for an amendment to allow revoking the citizenship of comrades like her. What a disgrace.

Macy Gray is a nobody and that flag represents our freedom from Britain’s tyranny. It is about our independence, not color.

Whin like a spoiled brat. I fought for that flag. You are free to have your opinion. Many have died so you could. But most of love our nation.
So do we change the flag every time a group whines? If you don’t love our country then leave please.
