Fox News host Tucker Carlson said during his opening monologue Friday that Chinese leaders have no respect for the Biden administration or the Democratic Party’s emphasis on ‘woke’ policies and are in fact using them against the U.S. to “press their advantage.”
Carlson began his show by reporting that U.S. and Chinese diplomats met on Thursday in Anchorage, Alaska, and that Beijing’s Communist officials appeared to show little respect for their counterparts including Secretary of State Antony Blinken on American soil.
He went on to chastise Blinken for failing to press the Chinese on the origins of COVID-19 virus, adding that Beijing continues to be less than transparent about it even to global health officials at the World Health Organization.
Carlson then noted that Chinese diplomats pushed back hard on Blinken’s stated list of U.S. priorities, which included concerns over human rights and democracy in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He said Chinese diplomats used U.S. concerns against Blinken, noting that many Americans have similar concerns about the Biden administration’s domestic policies regarding civil rights.
That, Carlson observed, has led to a disdain for the Biden White House as well as Democrats in general — even though they appear to defer to China — because it conveys weakness.
Carlson went on to note that the Biden administration has officially barred the use of “geographical references” when it comes to any mention of the origins of COVID-19, and that Democrats in Congress are talking about “anti-Asian” discrimination even as the Biden Justice Department dropped a suit against Yale University for overt discrimination against Asian applicants and students.
After playing a clip of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) “flaking for China,” Carlson explained that it is a mistake to assume Chinese leaders are appreciative “because it makes their job easier.”
“But they don’t appreciate it,” he said. “In fact, it just increases their contempt for our leaders. Our leaders are weak, and so the Chinese press their advantage.”
Carlson then played a clip of a female Chinese diplomatic aide and interpreter reading a statement from her bosses during the meeting in Anchorage in which she says “there are many problems within the United States regarding human rights,” which she claimed were “deep-seated” and went beyond “the past four years such as Black Lives Matter.”
“So there you have the Chinese government using Black Lives Matter as a weapon against the United States. You have the Chinese lecturing us about human rights. You never thought you’d see the day that happened,” Carlson said in response.
“But the amazing thing is, in 2021 it works. That’s why they do it,” he continued. “The Chinese know our leaders very well, in fact they have a name for our self-hating professional class. They call them ‘Baizuo.’”
Carlson gave a “rough translation” of the Mandarin term as “white liberal,” noting it is “definitely not a compliment.”
Later, he noted that “many Chinese internet users” employ the term critically against Democrats for their emphasis on affirmative action policies they see as discriminatory against Asians because they tend to do far better academically than students of other ethnic groups.
“We all see this happening, no one mentions it,” Carlson said after explaining Harvard University’s policies which appear to single out Asian students for discriminatory practices. “You know who else notices it? The Chinese. Why wouldn’t they?
“On the one hand, they’re offended by it because the Baizuo’s equity programs always seem to wind up hurting people who look like them,” Carlson continued.
“On the other hand, the Chinese government is pleased as they watch this,” he added. “Because no country that penalizes people for intelligence and hard work can last very long.
“The Chinese have been around long enough to know that’s true,” he said.
