Leave it to Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to inject a little common sense into the U.S. election.
As surprising as it may be, López Obrador appears to be showing a sense of loyalty to President Donald Trump in announcing on Saturday that he would not congratulate a winner until legal challenges are concluded.
“With regard to the US election, we are going to wait until all the legal matters have been resolved,” López Obrador said at a news conference.
“I can’t congratulate one candidate or the other,” he added. “I want to wait until the electoral process is over.”
The remarks came the same day the American media called the race in Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s favor, despite the election still being in flux with recounts to be conducted and pending legal challenges by the Trump campaign.
As quickly as they were to call the race — the contested 2000 election between George W. Bush and Al Gore wasn’t called until Dec. 12, 2000 — the corrupt media were just as quick to shame Republican who questioned the election outcome, which has been marred by millions of unsolicited mail-in ballots flooding the playing field in many battleground states.
The Mexican president’s hesitation was attributed to “a desire to avoid provoking Trump while he remained in the White House,” The Guardian reported, citing an anonymous Mexican official.
López Obrador wasn’t as hesitant to engage in Bolivia’s contested election last year, which included fraud allegations from the opposition.
“Bolivia doesn’t have a 3,000-km border with Mexico,” the source pointed out. “It’s important to have a couple of months of peace and good neighborly relations.“
Such respect for an American president certain to suffer under a Biden presidency.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opted to congratulate Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris on their presumed election victory, noting that he knows Biden “as a great friend of Israel.”

But before you’re too hard on Bibi if he’s making the prudent move, understanding that Biden would surely have some in his cabinet who question Israel’s very existence.
The New York Times noted Monday that Biden’s win “has left Israel and its longtime prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, on the receiving end of an abrupt demotion.”
“Overnight, President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory effectively downgraded Israel’s ranking on the list of United States foreign-policy priorities, diminished Mr. Netanyahu’s stature on the global stage and undercut his argument to restive Israeli voters that he remains their indispensable leader,” the newspaper declared.
Netanyahu did thank President Trump “for the friendship you have shown the state of Israel and me personally, for recognizing Jerusalem and the Golan, for standing up to Iran, for the historic peace accords and for bringing the American-Israeli alliance to unprecedented heights.”
One thing is certain, it makes for some very interesting dynamics, where people are finding themselves praising Mexico while casting a suspicious eye at Israel.
