A man angry at supporters of President Trump was arrested in southern Orange County, California after allegedly assaulting a number of people and striking an 84-year-old woman across the face.

The 33-year-old man appeared irate in video captured of the tense moments Wednesday during a pro-Trump rally being held in the city of Aliso Viejo. Alvin Gary Shaw, who was later taken into custody, allegedly had a knife on him as he fought with several people and when he attempted to run away, a retired police officer got involved and pulled his gun.

Shaw is accused of assaulting three women aged 55, 74 and 84, and was arrested after deputies arrived in response to five separate 911 calls that were placed Wednesday evening, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Donna Snow had a violent encounter with the man after she confronted him for trying to set her Trump sign on fire, as she told KCAL.

“They’re not giving away Trump signs, okay, in California,” the 84-year old quipped as she described how Shaw attempted to burn the sign.

“That made me a little upset, so I said ‘what are you doing? You can’t do that,'” she told KCAL.

“He took his hand way back like he was going to punch me, and [he] hit me right across the face,” Snow said. “Broke my earrings off.”

Cynthia Cantrelle-Westman, a witness who captured part of the incident on video, told KTLA that Shaw  “came out of nowhere, and we thought he was going to join our group,”

“Instead he was pretty upset and he started using profanity from the minute he arrived,” she said. “He kept coming over to me and getting in my face, and all I could say was the F-word.”

Shaw allegedly punched several women and blew smoke in their faces, according to witnesses. The retired officer from an agency outside Orange County detained Shaw at gunpoint after he pulled a small pocket knife, which was later found in the bushes where witnesses saw him throw it, according to Sgt. Dennis Breckner.

“This could have been a very serious incident,” Breckner said. “In this case, this was just two groups that disagree, and while we support people and their using their First Amendment rights to put out their message, we prefer that that remain peaceful.”

But for those assaulted by the angry leftist, their participation in a peaceful rally ended in a few moments of violence. One woman trying to help others at the rally was allegedly knocked to the ground by Shaw and another woman in her 70’s was taken to the hospital with a neck injury.

Shaw was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon and assault and battery after. He reportedly was released from jail on Thursday after posting bail, according to KTLA.

Twitter users were appalled by the attacks and reacted on Twitter, with many hoping the president could give Snow a new yard sign.
