‘Biden was not a backbencher’: Sanders camp shares damning video of ex VP’s support for Iraq War

Socialist Bernie Sanders is catching up to Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden in the polls, so his aides pounced on Biden for falsely claiming that he had opposed the disastrous Iraq War. A damning video proved otherwise.

Sanders’ speechwriter David Sirota reminded everyone that Biden had voted for the Iraq War, and cannot suddenly absolve himself of responsibility for the tragic consequences of that decision.

Sirota tweeted: “Biden was not a backbencher — he was literally the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman, with access to all the information. 23 Democrats voted against the war. He wasn’t one of them. He voted for the war — and voted down Dem amendments to limit it.”

Sirota tweeted a 2003 video of Joe Biden speaking at the Brookings Institute, where he praised George W. Bush for invading Iraq based on fake news reported by the New York Times claiming that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

As everyone knows, that was a total lie. A year after the invasion, the New York Times apologized for pushing the fake news that launched a bloody, expensive eight-year war.

The United States wasted $2.4 TRILLION on the Iraq War. And all we have to show for it is thousands of dead American soldiers and an enraged Middle East where millions chant “Death to America” every day.

In the 2003 video, Biden gushed:

“Some in my own party have said that it was a mistake to go to Iraq in the first place and believe that it’s not worth the cost — whatever benefit may flow from our engagement in Iraq. But the cost of not acting against Saddam would have been much greater. And so will be the cost of not finishing this job.

The President of the United States is a bold leader and he is popular. The stakes are high and the need for leadership is great. I wish he’d use some of his stored-up popularity to make what I admit is not a very popular case. But I, and many others, will support him when he makes the case.”

Sanders’ campaign aide David Sirota doubled- and tripled-down on his volcanic rebukes of Biden for lying.

Sirota tweeted: “Joe Biden doesn’t get to just erase the history of the Iraq War…Hundreds of thousands of people died in the Iraq War that Joe Biden pushed America into. Allowing Biden to now pretend he opposed that war is appalling.”

Sanders’ senior campaign adviser Jeff Weaver released a statement torching Joe. “It is appalling that after 18 years Joe Biden still refuses to admit he was dead-wrong on the Iraq War — the worst foreign policy blunder in modern American history,” Weaver said.

The old video of Biden surfaced shortly after former Secretary of State John Kerry defended Biden on “Face the Nation” amid mounting criticism of Biden’s attempts to distance himself from the Iraq War debacle.

A liberal reporter tweeted: “John Kerry’s claim today that Joe Biden didn’t vote for the war in Iraq is some of the ripest malarkey I’ve heard in a while. But its not the first time his campaign has told this lie.”

That’s not the only thing that Biden is lying about. Joe has repeatedly insisted that he didn’t use his political power as U.S. Vice President to make millions for his beleaguered son Hunter. However, mounting evidence suggests otherwise.

Last month, explosive court documents revealed that Hunter is the subject of multiple criminal investigations for “fraud, money-laundering, and a counterfeiting scheme.”

In addition to the Ukraine scandal and his unending series of epic gaffes, Joe has other unresolved problems.

A New Jersey woman said Joe defamed her late father by falsely claiming her dad was a drunk driver who had caused the 1972 car crash that killed Joe’s first wife Neilia and their infant daughter.

Curtis Dunn was a tractor-trailer driver. In December 1972, Dunn was driving his truck when the wife of then-Senator Joe Biden drove into the path of his vehicle, according to police reports.

Dunn overturned his truck while swerving to avoid a collision. Police said Dunn was the first person to render assistance to Neilia after she crashed her car “possibly because her head was turned and she didn’t see the oncoming truck.”

In other words, the car accident was likely caused by Neilia Biden — not Curtis Dunn. For years, Joe Biden claimed that a drunk driver had killed his wife. However, police filed no charges against Dunn after their investigation concluded that he had done nothing wrong.

Curtis Dunn’s daughter said her dad was tormented by Biden’s lies and was riddled with guilt until the day he died in 1999. Joe Biden never admitted that he lied about the incident for years.
