Impeachment part 2 is payback time: Senate Republicans prepare to stick it to Dems

President Trump wants due process and his day in court, so to speak, and the opportunity to turn the tables on Democrats in an impeachment trial in the Republican-controlled Senate is increasingly likely.

In fact, conservatives seem to be licking their chops in anticipation that Democrats in the House will vote to impeach the president and send articles of impeachment on to the Senate.

“Everyone knows what they’re going to do next. They’re going to impeach the president and send it on to the Senate, but that is the good news. That’s good news,” GOP Rep. Chris Stewart said. “In the U.S. Senate, there won’t be any secret testimony or dishonest leadership … or to deny a defense … So we’ll finally be able to get to the truth.”

Stewart mentioned a number of witnesses he hoped would be called to testify in the Senate, to include the as-yet anonymous whistleblower, the House kangaroo court chairman Adam Schiff, the real Ukraine scoundrel Hunter Biden, Burisma board member Devon Archer, DNC consultant Alexandra Chalupa, and Fusion GPS researcher Nellie Ohr.

“Don’t forget, there was no due process … You can’t have lawyers, we couldn’t have any witnesses,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” on Friday morning. “We want to call the whistleblower … frankly, I want a trial!”

In the House impeachment inquiry, only Schiff’s hand-picked witnesses were permitted to testify, and even then they clearly failed to make a case for impeachable actions on the part of Trump. Nonetheless, to Democrats, facts have always been irrelevant and they have hung all their hopes on this doomed effort to remove the president from office.

One official in the administration said were “ample reasons” for the Senate to just dismiss the case according to Fox News. But if that was to happen, Republicans would be passing up a huge opportunity to publicly scrutinize allegations of criminal activity by Democrats surrounding Ukraine and the impeachment scam.

Senate officials are already laying the groundwork for digging into those dirty deeds to some level. On Thursday, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asking for any documents related to contacts between former Vice President Joe Biden and former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, as well as to a meeting between Hunter Biden’s business partner and former Secretary of State John Kerry.

Graham told Sean Hannity of Fox News that the transcripts are of interest because the calls coincide with a Ukrainian prosecutor dropping an investigation into Burisma, a company Hunter Biden worked for.

“I want to know, are there any transcripts or readouts of the phone calls between the vice president and the president of Ukraine in February [2016] after the raid on the gas company president’s house,” Graham said. “After this raid, Hunter Biden kicks in. Hunter Biden’s business partner meets with [then-Secretary of State] John Kerry, and Vice President Biden on three occasions makes a phone call to the president of Ukraine and goes over there in March and they fire the guy, and this is the same man that the ambassador wanted investigated in 2015.”

The Trump administration is communicating to the Senate that they would like the trial to be brief. “The White House, on Thursday, signaled that they would like a Senate trial to last no longer than two weeks,” Fox News reported.

For some perspective, the Bill Clinton impeachment process lasted six weeks.

Given all the Dems’ misdeeds that could be unearthed in a Senate trial, two weeks would give that chance short shrift. If a Senate trial is to be, Trump allies seem to be most importantly focusing on the chance to prove the president’s innocence and then put the whole issue to bed in order to quickly move on to his reelection effort.
