Left-wing opinion host Shepard Smith stunned the Fox News audience when he abruptly announced that he was leaving the No. 1 cable news network after 23 years.

Smith’s hasty exit was especially surprising because he had just signed a contract extension in the spring of 2018.

However, by September 2019, Shep reportedly was enraged after repeatedly clashing with Fox News opinion hosts (and ratings kingpins) Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.

When asked about Smith’s departure, President Donald Trump quipped: “Oh, that’s a shame.”

Shepard Smith was extremely unpopular with Fox News’ core audience. In fact, there were numerous viewer campaigns to get Smith fired.

TV viewers understand that news personalities have their own political views, but do not like when opinion hosts pretend they’re objective reporters.

Because of Shep’s virulent anti-Trump animus, he also shaded the truth or even outright lied about the president — and was caught.

Here is BizPacReview’s Top 5 Shepard Smith meltdowns at Fox News:

1. Tucker Carlson calls out Smith’s leftist bias

In September, Fox News host Tucker Carlson launched an epic smackdown of Smith, calling out his hyper-partisan bias.

Tucker said: “It makes people cynical when you dress up news coverage — when you dress up partisanship as ‘news coverage’ — and pretend that your angry political opinions are ‘news.’ People tune out. They know dishonesty when they see it.”

2. Smith got caught lying about the migrant caravan

In October 2018, Univision correspondent Francisco Santa Anna — who spent weeks embedded with the 7,000-strong migrant caravan en route to the United States — confirmed that random people from Bangladesh had joined the army of illegal immigrants.

Santa Anna’s direct reporting from within the caravan contradicted Smith‘s angry denials (from the comfort of his posh Fox News studio in New York) that there were no potential criminals or “unknown Middle Easterners” secretly hidden within the caravan.

3. Shep Smith cried over illegal aliens

In June 2019, Smith fought back tears while discussing the border crisis. Specifically, Shep was heartbroken that illegal immigrants who stormed the U.S. border in defiance of our national sovereignty (while waving the flags of their home countries) were housed in detention centers.

Smith said it should be easier for illegal aliens to cross our borders and break U.S. laws.

Meanwhile, Smith apparently does not care about the millions of homeless Americans eating from trash cans and sleeping on the streets every night.

4. Smith clashed with fellow Democrat Chris Wallace over Trump

In October 2018, Shepard Smith had a heated exchange with fellow opinion host Chris Wallace.

Notably, Smith blamed President Trump for the activities of suspected package bomber Cesar Sayoc. Sayoc was a one-time Democrat who sent fake bombs to leftist billionaire George Soros and top Democrats, including Hillary Clinton and Maxine Waters.

Shep’s insistence on blaming Trump for the actions of a random Democrat even had fellow Trump-hater Chris Wallace defending the president.

5. Shepard Smith melts down over the government shutdown

In January 2019, Smith had an unhinged meltdown when he repeatedly blamed President Trump for the partial government shutdown.

“For fact’s sake, the President shut down the government!” Shep ranted. “He told the Democrats in the Oval Office that he would carry the mantle for it, that he would be proud to do it, and that he wouldn’t blame the Democrats for it!”

Flashback: Smith tried to run over a female reporter with his car

Unrelated to his on-air tirades, in November 2000, Shepard Smith was arrested in Florida and charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle after hitting a female reporter with his car in a dispute over a parking space.

According to the New York Post, reporter Maureen Walsh told police she was trying to hold a parking spot for a friend when Smith drove up. Walsh claims Shepard Smith barked at her to move. And when she didn’t, he ran into her with his car.
