Matt Drudge has apparently made the call, claiming Elizabeth Warren will get the Democrats’ 2020 presidential nomination, unless she blows it.

He was apparently impressed by the reported turnout at her Monday rally in New York’s Washington Square Park, posting an image from that event along with the proclamation, “It’s Elizabeth Warren’s nomination to lose.”

The polls aren’t reflecting Drudge’s opinion at this point. The Real Clear Politics (RCP) average has Warren 10 points behind Biden. So that New York City rally has to have made an impression on the famed internet journalist.

No official unbiased estimates of the crowd size were available, but her campaign claimed more than 20,000 attended the rally.

One person who was not wowed by the Warren crowd was President Trump.

“Anybody that can’t get people standing in the middle of Manhattan in the most densely populated area of the country – anybody could do that,” he told reporters on Air Force One. “I think more Democrats should do it. I get these crowds in areas that nobody’s ever seen crowds before. Pretty amazing.”

It truly is amazing that if the best Warren could do in the middle of the solidly blue Big Apple is drawing 20,000 (to be clear–that figure is highly debatable), then what’s the big deal? Warren may have some momentum going as Biden fades, but the Dems’ ongoing free-for-all smackdown is far from over.

Speaking of free-for-alls, promising handouts and freebies to the socialist crowd is probably Warren’s basic campaign strategy. She is also a master at dancing around tough questions about how her free-wheeling generosity will be paid for. Eventually, Warren’s feet will be held to the fire and her popularity will be tested when she is forced to admit she is planning on higher taxes for all.

To his credit, “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert pressed her Tuesday night for an answer to the issue of whether she would be raising taxes for the middle class.

On Wednesday, “The Five” ran a segment of that interview in which she continued to evade answering. “They only have one golf club in that bag — and it’s ‘tax the hell out of people,’ quipped Greg Gutfeld. “But they can’t say it because they’re going to lose.”

“We all deserve specificity,” Emily Compagno said about Warren’s tap-dancing around the questions about raising taxes. “In the beginning, it was artful. Now it’s agonizing to watch. She needs to admit it.”

Dana Perino said that Warren probably would not be coming clean on that anytime soon, saying: “Probably not until she becomes the nominee. She is talking about … even though she’s not admitting it … a middle-class tax hike.”

So whether it’s Warren or any of the other leftists making big-fix promises, the presidential election will provide voters with a clear choice … President Trump and his efforts to again cut taxes versus huge tax hikes to pay for America’s socialist freeloaders.
