Biden to crowd: ‘I want to be clear, I’m not going nuts’

When you are reduced to reassuring folks that you haven’t gone “nuts,” well … you may have a problem.

Former Vice President Joe Biden was speaking on Monday at a stop in New Hampshire when he became befuddled about where he spoke just a few hours earlier at nearby Dartmouth College.

“I want to be clear, I’m not going nuts,” the Democrat told the crowd, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I’m not sure whether it was the medical school or where the hell I spoke. But it was on the campus.”

The 76-year-old Biden is apparently none too pleased with the perception some folks are getting from the media.

More on why that is from the Times:

It was a minuscule misstatement. But Biden’s irritation — he pointedly looked at the media covering the event as he corrected himself — was clear.

The former vice president is the front-runner in the 2020 Democratic presidential race, yet he is facing real questions about the fragility of that status. Any misstep or gaffe sparks a flurry of news coverage that undermines the premise of his campaign — that he is the candidate best equipped to beat President Trump.

The disdain for the media is surely coming from Biden witnessing firsthand for eight years the slobbering love affair the media had with his former boss, Barack Obama.

The former president could do not wrong in the media’s eyes. Claim there are 57 states? No problem. Mispronounce “corp” repeatedly? Nothing to see here, move right along folks.

But Joe Biden is no Barack Obama.

In reality, Biden has no one to blame but himself. The perception he now faces is the result of a number of stumbles and flubs on his part.

Just this weekend, Biden talked about how he loved being in Vermont … as he spoke in Keene, New Hampshire.

“I love this place. Look, what’s not to like about Vermont in terms of the beauty of it? And what a neat town … everybody has been really friendly. I like Keene a lot,” Biden said.

And while President Donald Trump is no spring chicken, just a few years younger than Biden, who continues to lead the Democratic primary in the polls, the president is still quick on his feet — even if the media is working overtime to convince the nation he is mentally ill.

Trump, who often calls Biden “Sleepy Joe,” mocked the Democrat gaffe machine earlier this month when Biden said that he was vice president during the February 2018 mass shooting in Parkland, Florida.

“Does anybody really believe he is mentally fit to be president?” the president tweeted. “We are ‘playing’ in a very big and complicated world. Joe doesn’t have a clue!”

What is Biden’s response to those who may be concerned about his mental agility?

“Don’t vote for me,” according to NBC News’ Amanda Golden:

A perusal of social media shows that even Democrats are shaking their heads at Biden … which may say all that needs to be said about the polls consistency showing Biden out front.
