The comprehensive investigation led by John Durham into the Spygate Russia hoax is more far-reaching than what had been previously known, as evidenced by a June 10 letter from the Department of Justice to Rep. Jerrold Nadler.
“It is now well established that, in 2016, the U.S. government and others undertook certain intelligence-gathering and investigative steps directed at persons associated with the Trump Campaign,” Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote Nadler. “… there remain open questions relating to the origins of this counter-intelligence investigation and the U.S. and foreign intelligence activities that took place prior to and during that investigation.
“The Review is broad in scope and multifaceted, and is intended to illuminate open questions regarding the activities of U.S. and foreign intelligence services as well as non-governmental organizations and individuals,” Boyd stated in the letter.
The communication clearly states that no one and no organization is off the table in the Durham probe.
A discussion of this new knowledge took place among former Special Counsel Ken Starr, Fox legal analyst Gregg Jarrett, and Sean Hannity on Hannity’s Fox News program last night.
“What struck me was that it said ‘non-governmental,’ which means people like Glenn Simpson at Fusion GPS, Nellie Ohr at that same company,” said Jarrett. “It also means the Democratic National Committee and the Hillary Clinton Campaign who were involved in paying for the phony dossier that was used as a pretext to launch the phony investigation, as well as lying to the FISA court to spy on the Trump campaign associate.”
“I take this to be a wide open notice to everybody that all abuse of power, any corruption that has taken place in the course of these events is going to be discovered and every rock is going to be looked under,” said Hannity.
“It’s very good news, confirmation that we will get the truth,” said Starr. “A key dimension of that, Sean–this investigation is being conducted by professionals … by John Durham, the US attorney … by others in the U.S. Attorney’s office and by the Department of Justice professionals. So there’s not some outsider, a Bob Mueller being brought in.”
“What Bill Barr has wisely done,” continued Starr, “is use the resources of the Justice Department. And he’s making it very clear that he’s getting the cooperation of the intelligence agencies, by the way, including foreign intelligence agencies, it appears.”
Australian and British governments are known to have been involved to some extent in the counterintelligence spying against Trump associates.
Fusion GPS and former MI6 spy Christopher Steele created misleading intelligence on President Trump and his associates at the behest of the Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee.
“This (investigation) is very broad,” Jarrett pointed out. “It’s far encompassing, and it looks like John Durham and his team of investigators will be looking at all matters of potential corruption seriously.
Attorney General William Barr testified to Congress in April that he believed spying did occur against the Trump campaign.
