Economist Peter Morici slammed Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez for her policies and accused her of “assimilating” Americans to “Latin American values.”
The Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland called out the New York congresswoman’s “willful and malicious ignorance” in a Fox Business panel discussion on “Varney & Co.” on Tuesday.
Morici blasted Democrats as “a party that no longer believes core American values,” he said as he zeroed in on the freshman lawmaker and self-proclaimed Democratic socialist.
“Basically what you have in Ocasio-Cortez are Latin American values,” Morici said. “Instead of us assimilating them, they are assimilating us, and they want to bring the kind of socialism that destroyed Venezuela and frankly Mexico here.”
“It isn’t that we’re going to become Venezuela, but we could easily become Mexico, and you won’t be able to go outside your door without getting shot,” he added. “And if you say, hey Peter, aren’t you going over the top, think about what the last eight or ten years have been like in Chicago.”
Morici’s remarks came after he had already shredded Ocasio-Cortez’s call for a “Green New Deal” with a goal of having zero greenhouse gas emissions.
“In order to achieve the transition she envisions, we’d have to install globally 100 trillion kilowatts of generating capacity over the next 30 years,” he explained. “It’s absolutely impossible to do what she’s describing according to physics.”
He called out the “demagoguery” of the left using climate change as a vehicle for socialism.
“There’s ignorance, there’s willful ignorance and then there’s willful and malicious ignorance. That Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,” Morici exclaimed. “This is demagoguery, it’s about time she be called out. The left is just using global warming, climate change, the environment as a stalking horse for socialism.”
“They can’t take away all of your money and accomplish this, but they will,” he added. “That’s what this is about. This is a demagogue.”
Fox Business host Stuart Varney concluded the segment by asking his guest if he thought America is ready to vote for “that left-wing agenda?”
“I think it could. Yes,” Morici replied. “Societies have done dumb things before.”
