Whoopi throws cold water on Ocasio-Cortez: ‘Before you start pooping on people…you got to do something’

Whoopi Goldberg slammed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over her recent comments, advising the freshman Democrat to “learn the job” before running her mouth.

Referring to a “60 Minutes” interview with the newly sworn-in New York congresswoman, the co-host of ABC’s “The View” called out what some deemed an insult to established Democrats in Congress.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper, hosting the CBS news show, asked the freshman lawmaker about the “politically dangerous tactics” of supporting Democratic primary candidates seeking to unseat incumbent Democrats, as Ocasio-Cortez had promised.

“It’s absolutely risky. It requires risk to try something new, but also … we know so much of what we’ve tried in the past hasn’t worked, either,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

Her response drew backlash from those, like Goldberg, who were angry at the perceived insult by Ocasio-Cortez, someone the comedian initially referred to positively as an “opinionated woman” on Monday’s “The View.”

“But it is very, very difficult when people make accusations where you say, you know, the Democrats have done nothing, the establishment of the Democrats have done nothing,” Goldberg said, praising other Democrats, like Georgia Rep. John Lewis California Sen. Dianne Feinstein who were not “sitting still” the whole time.

“There are a whole bunch of people in the Democratic Party who have been busting their asses to make sure that women get what they need, people get what they need, children get what they need,” Goldberg added.

The comedian continued her lecture, advising the 29-year-old, self-proclaimed Democratic socialist to “sit still for a minute.”

“You just got in there, and I know you’ve got lots of good ideas, but I would encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job, because there are people in that party who have been working their tails off for this country. They know a lot, and you could learn some stuff from them,” Goldberg said, interrupted midway through her comments by applause from the audience.

“You don’t have to be born into it,” she added. “You don’t have to know it when you step out, but before you start pooping on people and what they’ve done, you got to do something too.”

Some liberals on social media applauded Goldberg’s “wisdom” as well.

But others slammed the actress and comedian for “womansplaining.”

And plenty of others cautioned that liberals calling each other out could go one way or the other.
