Outgoing UN Ambassador Nikki Haley took to Twitter on New Year’s Day to inform supporters that she has a new account, explaining that government regulations put in place by the Obama administration required that she delete her previous account.
Along with the account went 1.67 million followers she had acquired.
“Due to State Dept rules that were changed by the outgoing administration, I have had to clear my personal Twitter account that I have had for years,” Haley tweeted. “The followers, the history, the pictures, and all other content. Please refollow and retweet this to your friends. Here’s to 2019!”

Haley also informed followers on her previous account that they would have to follow her again at the new account.
“As we enter 2019, I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to rep the country I love so much. Thank you Mr. President for the honor of a lifetime. Thanks to all who have supported us. To keep up with what’s next refollow me at @nikkihaley and tell your friends & family! ❤️??,” she tweeted.

Interestingly, the one person who may bear the most responsibility for the events that unfolded, the Washington Post’s John Hudson weighed in to point to a column he did in 2017 about Haley and other Trump administration officials using personal Twitter accounts.
“Nikki Haley has to surrender her 1.6 million Twitter followers and she doesn’t sound happy,” Hudson tweeted. “Here’s my story from back in 2017 about how she was in violation of State Department social media guidelines. I didn’t think it would ever be enforced.”

Even more interesting, a former State Department official who reportedly wrote the regulations relevant to Haley’s social media account jumped in to claim this is “the best evidence” that Haley is running for president.
Perhaps, as early as 2020!
She’s running. No seriously.
This is the best available evidence Nikki Haley is contemplating a run for the Republican nomination as early as 2020.

Either way, in a show of how popular Haley is, her call to retweet was heeded by many and as of this writing, she has recouped 210,000 followers. In under 24 hours.
Noted conservatives like Ben Shapiro lent a helping hand, prompting a hearty thanks from Haley:
Thanks @benshapiro! https://t.co/egCN083Zfm

Charlie Kirk, the founder and president of Turning Point USA went one step further, offering a ringing endorsement of Haley, declaring that she will be “our first female president.”
“Stupid government rule made @NikkiHaley delete her Twitter account and lose all her followers she earned over 8+ years,” he tweeted. “Everyone go follow her account and RT this! She will be our first female President She is strong, decisive, a true leader!”

Here’s a sampling of others who jumped in to assist Haley in rebuilding her following online:
Yesterday, Ambassador Nikki Haley had 1,700,000 followers, earned over a decade; today, she suddenly had 0. Under State Department rules changed by the outgoing Obama administration in its final months, she had to delete everything. It's a new day: time to re-follow @NikkiHaley. pic.twitter.com/VQSEdnkqZK

For two years @NikkiHaley had the courage to stand up to the most corrupt countries in the world, very often using Twitter as her platform. Let's do what we can to help her build back up after this crippling Obama-era ruling. https://t.co/HVKAhw5DiY
