The wife of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin lashed back on social media after being blasted for posting a photo of herself some found offensive.
Louise Linton unloaded on an Instagram user on Monday for being “adorably out of touch” after she posted a photo of her and her husband stepping off a government plane, captioned “Great #daytrip to #Kentucky!”

“Glad we could pay for your little getaway. #deplorable,” the user, who was identified by the New York Times as as Portland-based mother of three, Jenni Miller, said. Linton had added hashtags to her post apparently tagging some of the designer clothing that she was wearing, such as #rolandmouret, #hermesscarf, #tomford and #valentino.

The 36 year-old Scottish actress was not about to take the criticism sitting down, firing back at Miller before turning her previously public account to a private setting after the brouhaha erupted.
“Cute! Aw!!! Did you think this was a personal trip?! Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? I’m pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day ‘trip’ than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than you’d be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours,” Linton responded.
“You’re adorably out of touch. Thanks for the passive aggressive nasty comment. Your kids look very cute. Your life looks cute. I know you’re mad but deep down you’re really nice and so am I,” she went on. “Sending me passive aggressive Instagram comments isn’t going to make life feel better. Maybe a nice message, one filled with wisdom and hunanity [sic] would get more traction. Have a pleasant evening. Go chill out and watch the new game of thrones. It’s fab!”
Naturally, social media users worried that Linton would remove the post took screenshots and shared them on Twitter, along with more scathing commentary on the response from the wife of the 54 year-old treasury secretary.

Miller, who the Times noted was a registered Democrat, spoke to the publication via telephone about her surprise at Linton’s response.
“If she hadn’t made her account private, I would have written back with a very snide Marie Antoinette joke,” Miller said. “I think my post was just five or six words, and she had to go on basically a rant about it to make herself look more important and look smarter, better, richer — all those things.’
“It seems like she’s been in public life for a long time,” she added. “It just seemed wholly inappropriate.”
A Treasury Department official did not comment on the post but told the Times that the Mnuchins reimbursed the government for the trip and Linton did not receive any compensation from the designer fashion labels she promoted with her hashtags.

And though Linton pulled the curtain over her Instagram account, the comments kept coming on Twitter.

GOP or Democrat, people in this country are suffering. It’s wrong for Louise Linton to mock this mother of 3 for having less money than her: pic.twitter.com/RUOjA7dC4b

(Whoops, appears Linton forgot to include a hashtag for her $12,000 Birkin bag. Sure the #nicest #people of Kentucky loved that.)

Yep, she’s on a taxpayer funded getaway, attacking those who paid for her trip. F her.

I do not care at all. Her husband gave up a lot to serve our country and she can wear what she wants.
