Fired ESPN reporter thinks being ‘openly conservative’ could have gotten her axed

Amid a growing realization by many that the sports network ESPN is a decidedly left-leaning operation, fired sports reporter Britt McHenry just threw gasoline on that fire.

In responding to a tweet Monday from Clay Travis of “Outkick the Coverage” about the network’s liberal leaning, McHenry said: “I mean I’ve been openly Conservative… look how that ended up…”

The unemployed sports reporter would soon delete the tweet — perhaps wanting to avoid scaring off a future employer — but a screen grab can be seen below, courtesy of  TheBigLead.com.

McHenry, who posted a photo of herself and Republican Speaker Paul Ryan online back in December, before deleting it, was one of approximately 100 employees laid off by ESPN earlier this spring, a move that was largely attributed to budgetary reasons.

But the financial squeeze may be a result of the network’s liberal views, based on an observation from venerable “SportsCenter” anchor Linda Cohn, who reportedly agreed with a radio host who questioned whether ESPN’s politics was hurting ratings, which affects its capacity to pay its employees’ salaries, according to The New York Post.
