A Democratic lawmaker in Massachusetts who warned illegal immigrants of a possible raid by ICE officials made no apologies for her actions.
“Could you see how this could be construed as helping others obstruct justice?” State Rep. Michelle DuBois was asked by a WBZ-TV reporter Tuesday.
“No, I don’t,” was her simple reply.

The Democratic state representative in Brockton doubled down on defending her Facebook post warning about rumored Immigration and Customs Enforcement sweeps in the area. She also posted instructions for illegal immigrants who had committed a crime on what to do if officials came to their door.
“ICE is welcome to call my office so please have them do so,” she told WBZ correspondent Louise Moller who asked her about the agency’s statement about endangering the public. “What you’re saying is hearsay.”
The message from the post by DuBois was forwarded from her “friend in the Latin community,” but she said she did not see her actions as simply spreading rumors.
“It’s information in my community,” she said.
“Passing information along that is already all over the community not only lets the people I represent know what is happening, it lets ICE know that everyone in Brockton is aware of their intended raid, if there was one,” DuBois read from a statement.
But ICE officials said it “does not conduct random sweeps” and ICE spokesman Shawn Neudauer criticized DuBois’ actions as inciting “panic or fear.”
“Any person who actively incites panic or fear of law enforcement is doing a disservice to the community, endangering public safety and the very people they claim to support and represent,”
