Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell lit up the Republican National Convention in Cleveland with a patriotic and emotional speech.
Video from Fox News.
Luttrell, whose battle with the Taliban in Afghanistan inspired the film “Lone Survivor,” was met by a standing ovation and extended cheers after being introduced by former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
He fought back his emotions as he delivered an address that visibly touched many, as he made a plea for better treatment of veterans.
“We’ve got to make sure that the hell the veterans return from is not the hell they come home to,” he said.
“Every one of us has to step up in some way,” Luttrell said. “We need our leaders to lead by example … and show the American public that each and every life underneath the flag should be family and treated accordingly.”
“For the next generation, this is for you. Your War is here,” Luttrell said. “Who among you are gonna step up and take the fight to the enemy? Because it’s here.”
He noted that in a dark world, “America is the light, and her people are the goodness that grows from that.”
