Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg now regrets the comments she made criticizing Donald Trump.
The 83-year-old found herself in the middle of the presidential campaign after lashing out at the presumptive Republican nominee earlier in the week.
“On reflection, my recent remarks in response to press inquiries were ill-advised and I regret making them,” Ginsburg said in a statement Thursday, according to CNN. “Judges should avoid commenting on a candidate for public office. In the future I will be more circumspect.”

Ginsberg’s criticism, uncharacteristic for a current member of the Supreme Court, was shared with the Associated Press, The New York Times and CNN.
“He is a faker,” she told CNN. “He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego.” She told the New York Times a Trump presidency would result in her moving to New Zealand.
Not one to take criticism lying down, Trump fired back, tweeting that the Bill Clinton-appointed judge should resign. Ginsberg became the center of the backlash as she was called out by many including legal experts and congressional lawmakers.
Even the New York Times sided with Trump in an editorial, calling on Ginsberg to “drop the political punditry and the name-calling.”
“[S]he couldn’t help but be surprised by what’s happened in the last 72 hours with so much second-guessing from even folks who are her fans on the left,” CNN legal analyst and Supreme Court biographer Joan Biskupic said on CNN’s “At This Hour” Thursday.
“I think she felt like it was important for her to clear the air. I think she felt like she wanted to acknowledge that she made a mistake instead of just waiting to hope that the issue would die down.”
