It’s bad enough that the liberal New York Daily News used a vulgar insult to tell Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz what train to take, but having two of the top three broadcast networks feature the slight on their morning shows added insult to injury.

Following Cruz’s big win Tuesday in Wisconsin, the Daily News welcomed the Cruz campaign to the Big Apple with this headline: “Take the F U Train, Ted!”

Cruz’s victory lap was short lived as the presidential hopeful encountered hecklers and cancellations Wednesday in New York City.

NBC’s “Today” and “CBS This Morning” were eager to partake in the jocularity, according to Newsbusters, with both programs highlighting the Daily News’ screaming headline on Thursday morning’s programs.

“It’s going to be a bruising next 12 days as these candidates get the New York tabloid treatment,” said NBC correspondent Peter Alexander. “They didn’t wait long. Here it is, the pulse of the city right out of the gate right now from this morning’s Daily News: ‘Take the [F U] Train, Ted!’ …  as you can see colorfully as only New York tabloid’s can do it.”

“A hit with our crew, clearly,” co-host Matt Lauer said in response to laughter in the background.

CBS was not quite as gleeful in touting the headline, but tout it they did…

“Ted Cruz received a cold, cold welcome when his campaign rolled here into New York City,” CBS co-host Gayle King said. “Page one of this morning’s Daily News says it all, I guess.”
